‘Outlander’ Finally Comes To Netflix With An Incredible New Season_2

‘Outlander’ Finally Comes To Netflix With An Incredible New Season.

If you’re at all like me, you have a spot soft for historical dramas. And an even softer spot for romance. And perhaps an even softer spot for all things Scotland. No TV series out there does all three of these better than Outlander.

The harrowing story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) returns to Netflix  0.0% today with its sixth season. Season 6 aired on Starz back in 2022, a full two years ago, and is only just now coming to Netflix.

Season 7A aired late summer last year and Season 8 is currently filming, with no official release date at this time.

Minor spoilers ahead.

Season 6 was a genuinely thrilling season of Outlander, and introduced one of the show’s best—and most complex—characters in Thomas Christie, played brilliantly by Thomas Lewis Jones. Christie is a man you hate right off the bat, before you find yourself grudgingly admiring him as he changes for the better, largely thanks to Claire’s influence.

The sixth season follows the harrowing events that ended Season 5 (and one horrifying scene in particular that made me stop watching the show for a spell). It sets up the story of Claire and Jamie’s role in the Revolutionary War, which is fast approaching. Meanwhile, Season 7 leads to what we’ve all been anticipating most:

The lovestruck couple’s return to Scotland after years and years spent building a life in the New World.

Outlander is based on the best-selling novels by Diana Gabaldon, a local author who comes from my neck of the woods here in Northern Arizona. Season 8 will be the show’s final season. There are nine books in the series.

I should note that Season 7 of Outlander is only halfway over at this point, with the first half airing back in 2023 and the second half landing this November.

Season 8 is currently filming with an expected 2025 release date on Starz. This means, we likely won’t see Season 7 drop on Netflix until 2026 unless the first half is released on Netflix first, as there is a two-year wait between the Starz and Netflix releases.

That means the final season of Outlander won’t drop on Netflix until 2027 at the earliest, which is quite a ways out!

Fortunately for fans of historical romance, Netflix is dropping the first half of Bridgerton Season 3 on May 16th.

Another series fans of Outlander might want to check out is the historical drama Poldark, which you can watch on Prime Video. It takes place in a similar time and has charming, beautiful people and stories filled with action, romance, rebellion and plenty more that should scratch that Outlander itch.

What do you think of Outlander? Any other shows like it that you recommend?

Part two of the time-travel drama’s supersized seventh season finally has a premiere date.

“Starz is committed to investing in unapologetic, bold premium storytelling that amplifies diverse voices and shines a spotlight on women in front of and behind the camera through our #TakeTheLead initiative,” Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz, said in a statement.

“The hit series ‘Outlander’ embodies everything about our initiative including a powerful female lead character and an amazing team of storytellers. We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and Jamie in America during the Revolution as well as more time travel during this next season.”

Due to the pandemic, Outlander‘s sixth season had to be shortened. However, fans need not worry. To make up for this “droughtlander,” Starz announced an extended season seven, featuring sixteen episodes. In an interview with ET, executive producer Maril Davis even went so far as to call season seven “supersized.”

“We are excited to get into the editing room to work on bringing the fans one step closer to reuniting with the family back on Fraser’s Ridge,” said Matthew B. Roberts, Outlander‘s showrunner, in a statement.

“Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible. Dinna fash, we will then film an extended season seven with 16 episodes next year as life returns to normalcy.”
