Kevin Costner is making headlines with his ambitious new project, Horizon: An American Saga. This epic Western saga, which Costner has been developing for over three decades, will be a monumental four-part film series totaling 12 hours.

The first two parts are set to release this year, with the initial installment debuting on June 28, 2024, and the second following on August 16, 2024.

Costner's vision for Horizon is to eventually have all four parts available for a marathon viewing experience in theaters, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the entire saga over 12 hours.

This idea was revealed during CinemaCon, where Costner expressed his hope that in a couple of years, fans will be able to watch all four films back-to-back in a single theatrical event

The story of Horizon explores the settlement of the American West, beginning during the Civil War. Costner, who co-wrote, directed, produced, and stars in the series, has drawn inspiration from classic Westerns like John Ford’s How the West Was Won

He has invested heavily in the project, both financially and personally, even mortgaging part of his estate and putting up over $20 million of his own money to ensure its completion​

Costner premiered the first chapter of Horizon at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a seven-minute standing ovation, moving him to tears. This emotional reception underscored the significance of the project to Costner, who brought five of his seven children to the festival.
